Earned a robust set of business skills as owner of a small apparel company. Developed a brand identity and attained advertising expertise, with an emphasis on the most cost-effective solution for a tight budget; enhanced accounting skills while handling company finances; managed relations between vendors, customers, and clients; perfected promotion skills, with an eye toward increased revenue and brand awareness. Today, “b minus” donates its profits to organizations that work to make bicycling more fun, safe, and accessible in Philadelphia.

WHYY {Fall 2010}
Assisted senior publicist as Intern for Public Information at WHYY. Helped write press releases, edited copy, and produced stories for internal and external newsletters.

Mighty Writers {Summer 2010}
Intern at the after-school writing program at Mighty Writers, a community literacy center in South Philadelphia. Improved communication skills, witnessed the benefits of extra-curricular writing instruction in children and young adults, and broadened the depth of my studies outside of the classroom.

Executive Board of A.I.G.A. {2007 – 2009}
Served as co-chair of Ethics on the executive board of AIGA, the professional association for design. Promoted sustainability and eco-friendly design through lectures, small community gatherings, and other imaginative events. Initiated meetings, invented new projects, developed programming, and contributed to the direction of an individual committee and the organization at large.

Barack Obama Campaign {2008}
Campaigned for Barack Obama’s bid for the Presidency during the Pennsylvania primary and general election. Participated in canvassing initiatives and door-to-door campaigns. Obtained first-hand experience regarding successful organizational techniques and bolstered ability to communicate to individuals from diverse backgrounds and distill a complicated message to a few brief points.

Good Karma Café {2008 – present}
Barista at an independent coffee shop in Center City Philadelphia. Gained communication skills, improved salesmanship, showed persistent dedication to learning and growing with the business, and demonstrated an ability to successfully balance the demands of a part-time employee and full-time student.
