Foxygen {new music}

To say Foxygen is a band inspired by bands of the ’60s like the Beatles, Kinks, and Lou Reed, would be at once accurate and superficially limiting.

Take the sprawling composition of the following song, both sonically and lyrically, from the band’s third LP—We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic {amazon}— released earlier this year. What starts off as a quiet lament of a lost love, replete with energetic bursts of soul-inspired encouragement, ends with what seems like an abrupt justification:

I’m happy if she’s happy.
