It’s called Tropical Race Four, and they’re eating our bananas from the inside out! Turns out that the type of banana we eat, the Cavendish, is a bit of a freak of nature anyway: most other banana varieties are either too small, bland, or thin-skinned for mass-distribution.
Tropical Race Four can wipe out an entire plantation in one swoop. The resulting fruit ain’t pretty:
